paris

a canceled show in milan led to us hopping on a last minute show in paris.  adam, jesse and myself made it a point to wash up quickly after our set and hop a cab over to the eiffel tower, touristy as it may be.  we downed a couple bottles of red and enjoyed each others company on the lawn as night fell.  yet another interesting historical fact from guitar tech/stage manager/historian extraordinaire dan halen: gustave eiffel, the tower’s architect, never intended the tower to be quite as large as it ended up being, and upon its completion he was completely dissatisfied with the aesthetics of his creation.  he believed the tower had ruined the city’s skyline, which ultimately led to him moving to the very top of the tower because it was the only place in the city he could live where he didn’t have to look it.

the zeppelin field in nurnberg germany was the epicenter of nazi germany leading up to the second world war, and was where hitler would address the famous nazi rallies you’ve seen pictures of during the 1930’s.  our amazing, super talented and even more super-good-dude guitar tech/stage manager dan halen (yes, dan halen) possesses the richest wealth of knowledge in history i have yet to see, and informed me that hitler’s architect designed all of the nazi structures with intent for them to still look good as ruins in the decades to come.  atop the dozens of pillars (see below) surrounding the giant field in which the festival took place giant flags with swastikas reached towards the sky.  for more info, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_party_rally_grounds

the giant advertisement really ruined the affect of the picture below, but notice the podium sticking out from the giant structure — it was here hitler stood to address the thousands upon thousands of nazis attending the rallies.
